Phil-Com works with nonprofits around the United States. We create campaigns for agencies with missions that range from social services, to heath care, to families grieving after episodes of gun violence, to LGBT programs.
We know nonprofits generally need to keep costs down and, if designing campaigns and signage themselves, often look for and use images that are royalty free. There are a number of site where you can purchase images- some inexpensively, some not. There are just a few sites where images can be downloaded for free.
During our efforts, we have noticed a distinct lack of FREE pictures available that are of people of diverse backgrounds- whether racial, gender, physical ability, sexual orientation, or religion. When we search for images of professionals at work, we want to be able find images of all manner of professionals at work. When we look for pictures of people volunteering, we want to find free images that have diverse people as the volunteers, not only as the service recipients. When we look for pictures of "happy women", we don't want all the photos on offer to be sexualized.
That is why Phil-Com is going to create a place for people from anywhere to submit photos they are willing to let nonprofit organizations use in their marketing. The photos will be of good quality and will be of a range of people- equally. It make take us a while to build up a solid collection, but we're willing to try. Check back soon for details on how you can submit photos.
